Volleyball

Holding your Hands

The first technique is to put one hand up, and lay the other hand up on top of it. Then bend your hand/fingers so it looks as if you are holding water in your hand. Put your thumbs next to each other, sitting on top.

Holding your Hands

The second way is to make a fist with your left hand, while placing the knuckles to the right. Lay your thumb on top. Put your left hand around the fist, knuckles to the left. Put that thumb on top right next to the other thumb.

Spike Shot

Extend your hitting hand straight out above you, and hit the ball, contacting the upper half of the ball with the heel of your open hand at the very top of your swing. For maximum impact, keep an open palm. Again, the contact point should always be in front of your head, not above it.

Set

In the game of volleyball, the set is a maneuver in which a player quickly makes contact with the ball in order to set up a spike for another player. Most good spikes are the result of a good set.

Balloon Volleyball

Using a balloon play a game of volleyball.

This game works on coordination and will need to be played inside. The children are going to use a balloon and try to keep it up in the air using different body parts. Instruct the children to start with their head and see how long they can keep the balloon up in the air. Once the children have grasped the activity, you can give them different body parts to try. Once you have completed all body parts, place the children in teams and have a relay race. The children must run around a cone whilst keeping the balloon in the air using any body part.
