Encourage your children to look for the punctuation errors in the Red Crayon’s letter.

In this activity sheet, your class will be challenged to search for different sounds within the words of the text.

Sheet 2: oo, ow, ea, ay, i-e, au, ie, er & oa.

Spelling - Red Crayon

Could your children read the text and then determine which words are spelt incorrectly?

There are two activity sheets in this resource. The children must identify the words that have been misspelled and then correct them.

Spelling - Green Crayon

Once again, your class must look closely at the text and identify the words that have been misspelled. The children must underline the incorrect words and then write the correct spelling above.

Reflecting - All Crayons

Your class can reflect on the letters written by some of the crayons and complete the sentences.

They can use their imagination to put their own spin on things, or they can use the information from the book for ideas.

Comparing Texts - Green and Red

In this activity sheet, your class must read both letters by Green and Red Crayons and identify different and similarities. The sentences are structured for your children to assist with the comparisons.

Scaffolded Writing

Your class can use the story of The Day the Crayons Quit as a template and put their own spin on things.

The children must use their imagination and change the content of the story.

Persuasive Writing

Your class can write a persuasive piece which highlights the crayon which they feel has the strongest case to quit.

The children must consider the facts, their opinions, give examples backing up their opinion and use persuasive words.

 

Creative Writing

What happened next in the story…

[One day, Red Crayon woke up, climbed out of the crayon box and left Duncan’s house. “I’m not coming back!” he whispered.]

Your children must tell the story of what happened to the Red Crayon after this.
