Intro to the Farm

A great animation introducing the main features of a farm. It introduces/reminds children of the different animals, workers and equipment used on a farm.

Farm Animals

This is a great learning resource to help children identify farm animals. Throughout this learning game, children are introduced to new farm animals and must find them on the farm. The game also introduces the children to counting how many animals they can see. If you mute the sound, the children are then challenged to read the sentences and work on the sight recognition of the animal names.

You could also use this resource to create a pictograph based on observations of the image.

Create a Farm

This resources consolidates the names and identification of the animals whilst giving children the freedom to create a farm of their own.

Counting Sheep

This numeracy-based resource is a great way to encourage your children to work on their counting. The children are given a certain amount of time (which varies depending on the difficulty) and must count the moving sheep. Once the time is up, they enter in the number. Some wolves are disguised as sheep, so count carefully.

Sentence Unjumble

In this activity, your children are encourage to use their word recognition and sound out to read the words. They are then challenged the click on the sentence in the right order to ensure the sentence makes sense. The sentences are based on farm animals, which is great because the children learn new facts too!

Farm Safety

The children must look carefully at the picture and identify all the potential dangers on the farm. A great way to encourage children to think more about farm safety.

This is a worksheet linked to different types of food found on a farm. It also has a spot the difference activity.

A Visit to a Working Farm

This video resources show Barnaby and Becky visiting a working farm. The farmer explains the dangers around the farm and the equipment used on the farm. The farmer also explains the importance of hygiene on the farm.

Livestock Farm

This video resources show Barnaby and Becky visiting a livestock farm. Farmer Ellis shows Barnaby how to milk cows and feed the lambs on the farm. There is also a lovely sing-song in the middle that the children could join in with.

Farm Quiz

The is a fantastic resource to check your children’s understanding of the farm. The quiz explores different information about animals and equipment around the farm, as well as mentioning key words. Once a correct answer has been selected, the children are then presented with an information bite. Great as an independent activity (depending on reading ability) or as a whole class activity.

Animals Songs

This is a great song that has be created for younger children to sing along with. The song explores the different sounds the animals make. The song speeds up with different verses. A fun activity that you children will love joining in with!

Old McDonald

A modification to the original song, no farm topic plan would be complete without this song. Old McDonald passes the animals until the correct sound has been reached. An enjoyable learning resource.
